SOUTH AFRICA 1937 JERSEY - FREDDIE TURNER No 26 - The jersey is believed to have been exchanged with Doug Dalton during the 1937 Test Series and donated by Dalton to the Rugby Pub Museum, Auckland Collection. The jersey originates from this collection. During the 1937 Sprinboks v All Blacks test series, Freddie Turner played in all three test matches, scoring tries in the 2nd and 3rd tests. This was the first series victory by any team in New Zealand and maintained the Springboks dominance of world rugby, they were unbeaten in a test series between 1903 and 1956.

double ply elasticated cuffs

 embroidered directly onto the jersey with a double lined cotton backing to the reverse.   Black numbers sewn directly onto a white patch with black cotton, the white patch is then sewn onto the jersey with white cotton around the border and diagonally from corner to corner. What is unusual with this jersey is that the number 2 has some unfinished re-inforced stitching in black that was applied after the patch was put on the jersey.
