CLIVE ROWLANDS - FIVE NATIONS JERSEY COLLECTION

  

The six jerseys including two French are part of the Clive Rowlands collection and were played in or exchanged post match. Clive Rowlands captained Wales in each of his 14 international matches and went on to coach Wales in the early part of the 1970s golden era.

WALES 1963 v ENGLAND JERSEY - CLIVE ROWLANDS FIRST CAP
 

 A No 9 international jersey from the collection of Clive Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. This jersey was from Clive's first match against England in 1963. Clive's leadership qualities have never been brought to question. His 14 caps for Wales were all as captain.

ENGLAND 1963 v WALES - PETER JACKSON JERSEY
 

A No 14 England international jersey from the collection of Clive Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. This jersey was worn by the Coventry winger Peter Jackson in Clive's first match for Wales against the old enemy at Cardiff Arms Park. Clive captained the Welsh team, as he did on each of his 14 appearances for Wales. Clive wanted to keep his first Welsh jersey and so that he could have an English one as well, Clive's club mate Dewi Bebb, Jackson's opposite number kindly swapped his jersey and presented it to the first cap man so that he would have a pair of jerseys for his first international.

SCOTLAND 1963 v WALES JERSEY - STAN COUGHTRIE

 A No 9 Scotland international jersey from the collection of Clive Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. The jersey was worn by the Scottish scrum half Stan Coughtrie in the infamous line-out match at Murrayfield. During this match there were 111 line-outs, many of them the result of Clive Rowlands kicking directly into touch. It's Clive's claim that they changed the laws to kicking direct into touch could only be done from inside the 25 yard line as a result of this match. Wales won the game 6-0, it was Clive's first victory in the scarlet shirt of Wales.

IRELAND 1963 v WALES JERSEY - SYD MILLAR

 A No 1 Ireland international jersey from the collection of Clive Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. The jersey was exchanged with the Irish prop forward Syd Millar after the match at Cardiff Arms Park. Ireland were victorious 14-6 which meant that for the first time since 1928 Wales had lost both of their home Five Nations Championship matches. Syd Millar won a total of 37 caps for Ireland and toured as a player with the 1959, 1962, and 1968 Lions, playing in nine test matches. He went on to a successful coaching career with the 1974 Lions. He managed the 1980 Lions and the Irish national team at the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987. In 2003 he was elected Chairman of the International Rugby Board.

 A No 9 international jersey from the collection of Clive Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. The jersey was swapped with the French scrum half and captain Pierre Lacoix after the final match of Wales' 1963 Five Nations campaign. A 5-3 loss in Paris saw Wales gather their first wooden spoon since 1949. France finished second in championship behind England with two wins and two losses.
