| AUSTRALIA TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICA, a full set of the
Australian squad autographs on the official Australia RFU autograph sheet.
This tour was led by John Thornett, it bristled with players who had
university backgrounds and they played bold, intelligent rugby, giving
plenty of thought to everything they attempted. When the forwards found
they could not push the powerful South African packs about, they developed
a holding formation which enabled them to break even. The team included
such greats as Catchpole, Greg Davis, Jules Guerassimoff & Peter
Crittle. They drew the test series 2 -2, winning the second and third
tests, only dubious refereeing decisions prevented them from taking the
series against the Springboks. 30 autographs in total
